Meet Kate Bastian
I never set out to run a business, but here I am.
What began as a small project for friends and colleagues has steadily grown through word of mouth, driven by a reputation for practical, effective solutions and consistent results.
As the owner of Black Dash, I help businesses achieve their objectives by building capability, systems and operational delivery. With 20 years in the resources and mining sector (including experience with BHP, Rio Tinto, Fortescue, and Roy Hill), I bring industry insight that connects people, operations and compliance with a focus on measurable outcomes.
My work covers everything from system development and contractor management to supporting businesses operating in high-risk environments. I work closely with leaders to navigate regulatory requirements, client expectations, and workforce challenges, drawing on insights from HR, WHS, and operational perspectives to deliver solutions that work in the real world.
I’ve worked with large organisations and smaller, family run businesses, tailoring my approach to each context. My style is straightforward and transparent. If I can’t help, I’ll say so and, where possible, refer you to someone who can. The focus is always on what is practical, effective, and relevant for your needs.
When I’m not working, you’ll probably find me on the farm with my family.

Over the years, I’ve built experience across HSE, workforce, governance, and business systems. This lets me cover the full scope of tender requirements from safety and compliance through to sustainability, capability, and business strategy.
I work side by side with clients to shape tender responses that are clear, aligned, and credible. It’s all about making sure what’s written reflects your real strengths, meets expectations, and can be delivered in practice.
My approach is practical and honest. I look at how your business actually runs, spot where things could be tighter, and work with you to strengthen what matters. I believe real change starts at the top, so I partner with leaders to build cultures that value people, strengthen safety, and drive operational success.
